Public Relations Manager

Tampa General Hospital is hiring a Public Relations Manager

Summary

The Public Relations Manager at TGH manages the day to day national, local, statewide media relations externally for TGH. This role manages all requests coming in and strategic story development with seasoned news cycle actively pitching daily to all news outlets, that include multiple platforms. This role must build excellent professional relationships with all media outlets, journalists, and writers across the country as well as our Florida and national public relations partners. The manager will act as a public information officer for the hospital when needed and report up to the Assistant Director of Communications and Partnerships. This role will actively build partnerships with leadership and department team members. This role is a critical member of the MarComm team.

The Public Relations Manager communicates very closely with the SVP, Sr. Director and Assistant Director of the MarComm Department.

This role will also work very closely with key stakeholders at TGH to provide and manage:

Strategic goals and initiatives from Administration pertaining to media relations
Senior strategy and identify “First, Only, Best” stories that positively highlight TGH’s academic medical center, innovation, culture, and physician expertise
External Communication cascades
TGH Service Line story generation and pitching Identifies excellent stories that happen at TGH every day and turns them into proactive media pitches
Presents media trainings for SME’s
Media Events Pressers/Holding statements
Writes and produces run of shows for media press events / talking points
May be asked to host events or segments pertaining to TGH
High volume video production management
Direct reports include: Senior PR Specialist, Videographer, Interns
Active lead with our national PR company and East Coast media
Media Relations- when it comes to our partnerships and cross-pollination
Collaborates with multi-media specialists to generate patient story videos
Develops creative ways to share and tell stories, including but not limited to email, media, video production, featured segments etc.

Knowledge & Skills Preferred:

Must be strong writer, feature, fact-based, technical
Must be strong editor with years of experience, AP style writing
Demonstrates strong skills that unite the team and builds positive working relationships
Ability to manage and build direct reports, elevate skills \
Demonstrates strong professional interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of management (internal and external), as well as media partners, vendors, community partners and the general public.
Ability to bridge the gap between executive leadership and front-line staff, creating action plans and messaging covering a multitude of campus and system goals shared across a variety of internal vehicles
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
Ability to articulate complex information in understandable and relatable terms to all levels of staff
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs to include: PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
Must have strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail and ability and willingness to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Strong time management and project management skills with ability to finish projects on deadline
Support the creation of crisis communication plans and the development of tools that assist with management of emergency preparedness across the division
Excellent written communication skills and AP writing style; ability to develop content for various internal and external communication vehicles
Hands-on working knowledge of the video production process
Ability to work independently without supervision
Must be responsible and must be team player

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or related field required.
5-7 years experience working with news media and/or previously employed by news media.
Ability to write and edit copy across all print and digital platforms.
PRSA certificate, MBA preferred
Experience planning and executing video communication tools
