Job Summary:

The Sr. Social Media Manager will be responsible for defining and executing social strategy and content across all social channels for various VSG properties, with a special emphasis on Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Sports social platforms. Responsible for developing and driving innovative social media strategy, developing learnings and insights, managing community growth and engagement that furthers the team’s goals and objectives all while also overseeing a team of Social Media Coordinators.

Supervisory & Management Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage a team of 2-3 Social Media Coordinators
  • Hire and provide strategic leadership of full-time staff and manage their workflow
  • Oversight of USF Fellows (as applicable)
  • Responsible for ongoing coaching and development of staff and timely performance feedback
  • Responsible for timely performance feedback through the Quarterly Snapshot


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive social strategy, helping develop voice and tone, channel guidelines, goals, and audience targets
  • Deep knowledge and proven results of crafting and implementing innovative social media growth strategies
  • Create content ideas, marketing materials and media plans that support business objectives working directly with various internal groups including; sales, content, production, legal, graphic designers and external partners
  • Develop, maintain and post multi-channel content calendars and corresponding content assets (in conjunction with Social Media Coordinators)
  • Editorial planning: Map messaging themes and content priorities to campaign calendar by phase and on a day-to-day level. Collaborate with production team and social media coordinators to deliver weekly social publishing calendars aligned to content and channel strategy
  • Provide detailed senior management ready reports on social media campaign performance along with strategies/recommendations for long term marketing growth and increased engagement
  • Help define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and create reports/recaps with key learning and action items to consistently improve social performance using native platform and third-party (Salesforce Datorama) analytics
  • Research, develop, and cultivate an ongoing social influencer plan focusing on all levels of influencers from micro influencers to celebrity fans
  • Explore and vet emerging digital/social technologies on behalf of VSG and make recommendations to Director of Consumer Marketing & Digital on efficacy and potential use across the organization
  • Keep current on social and digital trends
  • In conjunction with Social Media Coordinators ensure all applicable social handles are covered and game coverage is conducted for all home and away TBL games
  • Serve as main social media liaison for all appropriate partnership contacts along with NHL league social media contacts
  • Support the partnership team with planning and coordination of partner activations, such as digital and social deliverables and branded content
  • Works with team to schedule organic posts and plan paid campaigns
  • Provide general office task assistance, including but not limited to, the creation of necessary calendars, recaps, reports, spreadsheets, creative requests, PTU’s, and purchase orders
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years social media strategy/analytics experience
  • Proven strategic leadership ability
  • Experience in managing a team of full-time staff including hiring, performance coaching and development
  • Comfortable working with performance dashboards and can derive action plans for your team leveraging data insights
  • Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with their team and the executive team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work with little direct supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to story tell using marketing data verbally and written in the form of presentations, one sheeter, decks, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Salesforce Marketing Cloud a plus
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
  • Able to work extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary
