POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is the chief philanthropy officer with the primary purpose of leading the development and fundraising efforts for the Muma College of Business, one of the largest colleges within the University and Constituent Development Team. The Sr. Director of Development will cultivate and secure private major gifts ($100K or more) and manage and coach the Director of Development, Associate Director of Development, Development Specialist, and respective staff assistants to achieve the organization’s goals for contacts, proposals, and dollars raised. In close collaboration with leadership, the Senior Director of Development will establish strategic direction for the development and fundraising activities and will be responsible for driving outcomes. In addition, the Sr. Director of Development will manage various tasks/projects as assigned by the Foundation Associate Vice President and the Dean of the Muma College of Business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build and manage a robust portfolio of prospects in order to identify, cultivate, solicit and secure major private gifts ($100,000+) from a variety of sources, including alumni, friends, corporations and foundations for the Muma College of Business as its principal major gifts officer. Serve as the philanthropy advisor to the dean and help to facilitate key relationships in pursuit of impactful gifts to the college.

Lead strategic planning, goal setting, implementation, & management of all philanthropic activity for the MCOB, including major & planned gifts, annual giving, donor relations, & alumni affairs. Serve as an advisor to the Dean of the College on fundraising matters & coordinate development activities between the MCOB & Advancement. Supervise a team of 2 professional fundraisers & administrative team within MCOB. Coach, mentor, manage & lead fundraisers to successfully meet or exceed the established financial, proposal & prospecting goals. This includes conducting regular meetings with team members, tracking employees’ progress toward goals, providing regular feedback, & facilitating professional development & growth.

Motivate and partner with select boards and committees to harness the strengths of volunteer leaders. Collaborate with colleagues and leadership in University Advancement and within the Muma College of Business to develop personal competencies and advance fundraising strategies. Participate in professional development opportunities at a state and national level where appropriate.

Perform related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions related to this position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience related to development or other appropriate related professional experience. Community relations or development experience may substitute on a year for year basis for the required college education.

PREFERRED:
Master’s Degree and 5 years of proven fundraising experience, preferably in an institution of higher education and primarily major gift fundraising.  CFRE preferred but not required. Prior experience managing and mentoring professional fundraisers.
